For Immediate Release
Charleston, SC, January 01, 2007 – CHARLESTON, SC—December 21, 2006—Ted’s Butcherblock at 334 East Bay Street in downtown Charleston has enjoyed a successful first year in business and will celebrate their one-year anniversary in October 2006. The locally owned and operated neighborhood butcher shop and gourmet market has been fortunate enough to receive high accolades from several local, regional and national publications, including the Charleston Post & Courier, Charleston City Paper, The Charlotte Observer and recently, Bon Appetit and Food & Wine magazines.
Ted’s Butcherblock was featured in Bon Appetit’s June 2006 issue in “The Eastern Insider” as “The New Butcher on the Block.” Writer Lauren Salkeld praised Ted’s Butcherblock for reviving the tradition of old-fashioned, full-service butcher shops and mentioned owner Ted Dombrowski’s inspiration for opening the store, his Polish grandparents, who also owned a butcher shop in the 1920s.
“In a nod to the past, Ted grinds and cuts everything to order,” says Salkeld. “There’s also a short sandwich menu—don’t miss the “bacon-of-the-month BLT,” featuring different artisanal bacons as well as tomatoes, garlic aioli, and greens on a freshly baked baguette from Charleston’s own Normandy Farms.”
Food & Wine Magazine’s October 2006 issue included Ted’s Butcherblock in their special insert entitled “America’s 50 Most Amazing Wine Experiences.” The article explored exceptional and interesting wine shops, wine festivals and events and restaurants with noteworthy wine lists around the country. Ted’s Butcherblock was the exclusive business mentioned for South Carolina. “This year-old shop is both one of Charleston’s best butchers and one of its top wine stores,” states the article.
In the January 2007 issue of Food & Wine, Ted’s Butcherblock was touted as one of “3 Great New Butcher Shops.” The article noted that Ted’s is part of a trend of reviving the “nearly lost craft of butchering,” and goes on to say, “At this quirky Charleston, SC, shop and café, customers can choose expertly cut beef after enjoying a bacon-of-the-month BLT.” For more information about Ted’s Butcherblock, call 843.577.0094 or visit www.tedsbutcherblock.com.
