TED’S BUTCHERBLOCK KICKS OFF A MONTHLY CULINARY JOURNEY AROUND THE GLOBE IN 2006, BEGINNING WITH "POLAND" IN JANUARY

Charleston, SC, January 23, 2006 – In 2006, Charlestonians can go around the world on a culinary journey with Ted’s Butcherblock, located at 334 East Bay Street in downtown Charleston. Each month, the neighborhood butcher shop and gourmet market will highlight the culinary traditions of a different country or region and feature themed menu specials, wine tastings, products and special events. January’s highlighted country is POLAND, and Ted’s Butcherblock will be preparing Polish delicacies and traditional cuisine throughout the month.

The Polish menu for the month includes such specialties as sweet and savory Pierogis, a Polish-style dumpling filled with savory foods like cabbage, sauerkraut, onions, potatoes and pork, or sweet fruits. Also featured is “Bigos,” a Polish dish consisting of layers of sauerkraut, onions, apples and cooked meats served over egg noodles. Polish beers are also for sale, including Lomza, Perla and O.K. Okocim.

Upcoming highlighted countries include France in February, which will feature French cuisine such as Vichyssoise, Black Truffle Chicken Salad and Herb Chevre Panini, and Olive and Tomato Braised Lamb Shanks, perfect for a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner. During the month of March, Ted’s will be highlighting Spanish cuisine, using authentic ingredients such as homemade chorizo, manchego cheese and romesco sauce for the special menu. Other featured regions include the Mediterranean in April and Italy in May. Ted’s regular menu will also be available during all theme months.
