FEATURED CHARITY

A percentage of proceeds from our fourth quarter Friday Dinner sales this year will be directed to The Green Heart Project, a local non-profit organization that builds garden-based experiential learning projects and school garden programs to educate students, connect people and cultivate community through growing, eating, and celebrating food.

The Green Heart Project was formed in 2009 as a small garden project at Mitchell Elementary School - a Title 1 school that is located in a labeled food desert in downtown Charleston - and it quickly grew to include programs at schools throughout the area. There are currently ten area schools that incorporate programming from the Green Heart Project. Volunteers known as “Green Heart Buddies” work with students in the school gardens, providing mentorship and teaching important life lessons as they grow food for themselves and their community.
