The Green Heart Project

This quarter, we’re raising money for The Green Heart Project through our “Friday Dinners for a Cause” initiative. This local non-profit organization builds garden-based experiential learning projects and school garden programs to educate students, connect people and cultivate community through growing, eating, and celebrating food.

The Green Heart Project was formed in 2009 as a small garden project at Mitchell Elementary School - a Title 1 school that is located in a labeled food desert in downtown Charleston - and it quickly grew to include programs at schools throughout the area. There are currently ten area schools that incorporate programming from the Green Heart Project. Volunteers known as “Green Heart Buddies” work with students in the school gardens, providing mentorship and teaching important life lessons as they grow food for themselves and their community.

We love that the mission of The Green Heart Project brings together support for food production, mentorship and education, and we are thrilled to be raising money and awareness for this important non-profit organization this quarter. We hope you’ll join us for Friday Night Dinner now through the end of the year to learn more!
